FOOD QUALITY AND INNOVATION is a primary area of research for the Centre, drawing from the extensive IASMA experience in sensorial analyses (including innovative PTRMS approaches), processing technologies, traceability and safety of food and beverages. This programme is now further evolving through the progressive integration of modern biological approaches and the newest platform technologies to provide knowledge-based solution to the industry.

Research fellows with an interest and experience in:

-Volatile organic compounds in food (Ref. FQ1): to develop applications and methodologies for the rapid, high sensitivity and non invasive monitoring and quantification of volatile organic compounds of relevance for agroindustrial products and processes. The project focuses on the application of PTR-MS and GC/MS analysis and on their correlation with other characterisation of food (sensory analysis, olfactometry, texture analysis, e-noses) and genetic information. The implementation of statistical and data mining methods for spectrometric data analysis and for the correlation of different data sets, e.g. sensory-instrumental relations, is also of interest. Preference is given to candidates with experience in the use of analytical techniques related to volatile compounds detection and/or proficiency in statistics and data mining.

- Food technology (Ref. FQ2): to drive the development of innovative processes for agro-industrial applications, improving the overall quality and typicality of food and beverages, mainly wine, dairy and fruit productis. Development of rapid and non-destructive methods in food safety and quality control, new product development, evaluation of novel processing technologies.

All the positions available are strategic for the evolution of a successful integrated and interdisciplinary research centre which will undergo rigorous independent evaluation and according to international standards. All candidates will have a PhD and relevant research experience. For the more senior positions are requested an international research track record, proven ability in attracting external funding and experience managing research groups.

The Edmund Mach Foundation (FEM) is a non profit organization with a private legal status and can offer to prospective employees an innovative contract which enables the appointment of scientists on highly competitive salary schemes. All positions are available immediately and will be for three years initially with the possibility of extension and transformation into permanent positions.

The IASMA Research Center was judged in 2005 by an independent evaluation panel as the most competitive small/medium research Center for agriculture research in Italy. Trentino is recognised as one of the most attractive places to live in Europe, a Province of outstanding natural beauty and high quality of life. The Autonomous Trentino Province is one of the European Regions with the highest rates of investment in research

Candidates are encouraged to submit via email in confidence a complete CV, publication list, names and addresses of three referees, statement of research interests and accomplishments to:
